I've was reading from the dead sea scrolls on the life of Abraham. Very fascinating as it gives a little more background into some of the Bible stories. Simple things that help explain who's wife Lot was
for example. The Bible doesn't really say. And it talks about the beauty of Sarai and why Abraham gave her up so easily and was afraid to call her his wife. I realize this are additions and cannot be considered
gospel, per se, but they also are written as history and I find them fascinating.
I can't read all the time but when I can read I've been trying to catch up on some of the books I've had for years but never bothered with. I'm also discovering not all the extra biblical
books I've got are Christian either. I have a Bible Encyclopedia but when I did research on Adam and Eve and Noah the book mocked the bible story and said they were all fantasy and myth. The only reason I'm
going to keep it is because someday I want to have someone rewrite it but as fact. A bible encyclopedia a Christian can turn to for those really tough questions.
I think there is too much junk in the Christian world and so few who are willing to pay attention to what is right or wrong. So we just accept everything and say let God sort it out. The only problem with
that is there are no more standards so everyone can do what is right in their own eyes. I'm not suggesting laws. I was reading some of the laws created by the Essenes and today they seem downright foolish. Such
as the left hand can not be used for gesturing or if you are caught gossiping you are thrown out of the community for a year. My question is what is gossip? These days its hard to tell.
Still, if we go back to the time of Peter, when the Holy Ghost is in charge, people better get ready for judgment as in Ananias and Saphira.
